The Coffee and Cup **Hopefully It Makes Sense**

Today's topic was inspired by:  Nina Milton's Post

The rules of writing are a coffee mug.  They are sturdy, give readers (and writers) a handle on things, and make drinking more enjoyable.

The coffee itself, however, is imagination.  It fires up your senses.  It wakes you up and makes you pay attention.

Without the rules of writing, there are no signposts to guide you.  There is no safety measure guaranteeing a clean and painless experience.  In other words, hot coffee spills onto your lap as you try desperately to suck the drops from burning fingers.  Ouch.

But without imagination, you have a shell waiting to be filled.  You can hold it, see it, but you can't get your morning caffeine buzz by putting your lips to an empty rim.  It's just plain, boring, without a shred of indulgence.

Only when the two come together do you have a marvelous experience.

  2. It does make sense! Imagination is really the most important ingredient. But we have to get all the other stuff down first. Hmmm.... I feel like having a nice cuppa right about now. :)

  3. What an excellent analogy. And I have a real partiality toward coffee mugs.

By the way, you might be interested in reading my latest post at my memoir blog. I don't know if "Jackson" is your husband's name or not but he might be interested in my post as well. Click link in my signature below.
