Eleven Out of Twelve Isn't Bad (Update)

I returned my dozen library books on Friday, having read eleven out of twelve.  The one I didn't read, I just couldn't get into, but I did have enough time to read it if I had been interested.  Life is too short to waste on 500 pages of drudgery.
Since Friday, I have read four more books.

I have been receiving rejections from higher-tier literary magazines, which are flagging my confidence.  Star*Line (a speculative poetry magazine) did accept one poem provided I cut out three of four stanzas.  But even that hasn't helped restore me to myself.  Maybe in a few days I'll feel better.

My recent acquisitions of writing-related materials include renewing my Poets & Writers subscription, the 2015 Poet's Market, a collection of poetry, and a collection of interviews of poets.  (Wave Books is having a Summer Warehouse Sale throughout this month if you guys want to check it out.)

There are two chapbook competitions for poetry with no entry fee ending this month.  I don't know if I will feel up to submitting, though I should.

Well, I guess that's it for my news.  Have you bought any books on craft lately?  Are your submissions still going strong?

  1. I get SO many rejections with my freelance writing pitches--I just finally learned to always have multiple things out there. That makes each rejection hurt less.

    1. I submit in cycles. I send out a bunch, then wait for a couple months until enough responses come where I can send more. At least, that's what I'm doing currently. I don't "simultaneously submit" but maybe it would be better for me confidence-wise.

  2. I haven't read most of the books on craft that I've already bought over the past several years. I need to read a few of them. Maybe this summer while I'm on vacation.
