My Badly-Written, Scathing Political Poem

And “God Bless America” Plays

An instrumental version to a
Timeless American classic
Pipes into every room
Dripping down
Some people are crying
Others laughing to themselves
Completely intoxicated
By it
Everyone dressed in their
Finery with gold, no silver
A beautiful black-tie
Affair
Uncle Sam is onstage telling
Everyone we must give
Of ourselves to make this
Country better
While CEOs and Wall Street
Cats are clinging to people
Sneaking and stealing money
While giggling
Lady Liberty slumps in a corner
Limp from drugs or exhaustion
And Justice dances without scales
Or blindfold

  1. Beautifully put! I think it's very well written.

  2. Yeah, that's kind of the way things seem to be nowadays. This sounds like a bad American dream with symbolism that's pretty easy to decipher. Poor Lady Liberty.

    1. I didn't want the meaning obscured by too many odd tangents or "flowery" wording.

No one ever publishes my political poems so I thought I'd share one.

  3. Good ending images. I'd really like to vote *for* someone someday, instead of only against someone else.

    1. Thanks.
Yeah, I tend to feel the same way.

My political poems never outright condemn a specific party, just behaviors or wonky practices.

    1. Well, politics makes people talk, that's for sure. I live in a town where my best friend and I have to lower our voices in public when speaking our views because we're in the minority.
