Sorry about the lack of Tuesday post, I was out on the town with my best friend and we watched The Hunger Games. I thought it was good, even though I don't normally like dystopian worlds.
Going out didn't really help the down-in-the-dumps feling I've been experiencing as of late. I know it is REALLY stereotypical for a writer to slip into depression and I don't want to be one of those brooding people. I, however, have too much stress in my life.
I normally figure out ways around it but I haven't been able to meditate and I don't wish to medicate. I always figure medication is for people who don't understand what's wrong but they are depressed. I KNOW why I am down, I just can't figure a way to make it back up without some major stuff going on.
Being hit by almost a dozen rejections in two weeks doesn't really help much, either.
Do you ever get depressed or down fellow writers? What are some of your remedies?
Yes, definitely. This happens to me, especially after rejections.
ReplyDeleteFor me it helps just to keep writing. As long as I keep writing I can say 'oh well, that one didn't get accepted, but the one I'm currently writing will.'
It makes me feel better at least :)
Sorry you're feeling blue! :(
Glad you liked the Hunger Games
You're right, you never know when a future project will be THE project.
DeleteI have been getting rejections like crazy lately but the family stuff is getting to me.
I think it happens to all of us. Sometimes I can pull myself out of it, sometimes I can't. I often wonder if because writers/poets are such deep thinkers, we get ourselves in this position. I've been in one too lately.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it that way. I do think a lot. Is it possible to think yourself into a depression? I know I am a worrier by nature.
DeleteHey Jennifer! Yep happens all the time. I've been going thru it too... only mine is more a creative depression cuz I feel it smothered in my day job. As long as I'm writing I'm fine, but working a non-creative corporate job is like fingernails on a chalkboard. It makes me very depressed. But I try to remember how blessed I am too.
ReplyDeleteI think it's easy for writers to feel depressed because we feel so intensely. Hope you're feeling better soon! *sending you a virtual box of chocolates* (it always lifts my spirits. )
I thought you met a lot of different people in your occupation. It has to be great for character-building! Perhaps you won't have to work that job forever because your writing will support you and your family.
DeleteYou never know what the future will bring.
Yep, I think it happends to everyone once in awhile. When I'm down I try to do something I enjoy to pull myself out of it. Sometimes just spending time with friends helps.
ReplyDeleteI am getting to the point where I don't want to see anyone, which is rare. My mom is starting to come over more often so I don't get to my "hermit" stage.
DeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteHope you feel brighter soon! All creative types get into this, and it is natural. Sometimes my best material, esp for poems, comes out when I'm depressed, so I try to take advantage of it by writing out my feelings and frustrations. Or, I just eat some dark chocolate! And it helps to talk to a trusted friend or even escape with a great movie. Sometimes that can help shake the mood. But always stand up and get back into writing. Work hard to improve yourself, take serious advice seriously, and don't always listen to all the rejections. some of the greatest books ever were initially rejected. Just keep on pushing forward! Take care!
Thank you for the encouragement. I am trying.
DeleteMovies usually aren't as good of escape routes for me as books but I think that's because I have to imagine more of what's going on.
